No 211 The Social Security (Maternity Allowance) (Earnings) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015
These Regulations come into operation on 6/4/15 and they essentially amend the Social Security (Maternity Allowance) (Earnings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 in consequence of section 2 of and Schedule 1 to the National Insurance Contributions Act 2015 (c. 5).

This Order comes into effect on 7/11/99 and revokes the 1986 Order of the same name and subsequent provisions, namely the Redundancy Payments (local Government etc) (Modification) Order (Northern Ireland) 1986.

These Regulations amend the Fair Employment Tribunal (Rules of Procedure) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 (S.R. 2005 No. 151) (“the 2005 Regulations”), the most substantive amendments to which have previously been made by S.R. 2005 No. 579.
No 104 The Maternity and Parental Leave etc. (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015
These Regulations amend the Maternity and Parental Leave etc. Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999. The purpose of doing so is to remove the limitation on parental leave so that it may be taken at any time before a child’s eighteenth birthday.
Hybrid Working - Here to stay or past its use-by date?
There has been a noticeable drift back to the workplace following the pandemic, with the proportion of NI employees working remotely for some of the time falling from 41% in April 2020 to 17%. Ironically, even Zoom has recently decided to bring its staff back to the office for at least part of the week.
With this in mind, CIPD NI and the Labour Relations Agency ran a webinar on 16 October 2023 to take stock of the HR profession’s experience of hybrid working to date. CIPD NI Branch Chair Nicola Barber hosted the event, and we were joined by an expert panel comprising:
• Ulster University Economist Ana Desmond, co-author of ‘Is remote working, working?’ – research into remote working patterns in NI, published in August 2023;
• Leading HR practitioner and thinker Gary Cookson, author of ‘HR for Hybrid Working’ published in June 2022; and,
• Caroline Samia from the Labour Relations Agency.

No. 78 The Trade Union Ballots and Elections (Independent Scrutineer Qualifications) Order (Northern Ireland) 2010
These Rules revoke the previous provisions from 1992 and the subsequent amendments in 2003. These Rules amend provisions of the 1995 Trade Union and Labour Relations (NI) Order regarding certain trade union related ballots being supervised (as arranged by the trade union) by a qualified independent person (Scrutineer).
No 79 (C.7) The Employment Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 (Commencement No 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2018
This legislation becomes operational from 29/3/18 and makes changes regarding the provisions on the indexation of certain employment rights awards.
